In a dusty rural town in Western Nigeria during the late 1980s, two fifteen-year-old girls, Tiwa Bada and Lase “Lala” Lawal, are each other’s lifeline. Bright, driven, and burdened by their families’ expectations, they cling to a shared dream: to escape poverty, win scholarships, and build a future far from the small-town struggles they were born into. They seal this pact with a promise — to remain focused, to protect their bodies and their bond, and to leave together when the time comes. On the eve of their final exams, Lala convinces Tiwa to attend a local party. It’s one night, she insists — one night to feel like carefree girls before life begins. Tiwa is reluctant, but Lala persuades her.
